The Bakery at Fat Rice
2951 W Diversey Ave, Chicago, IL 60647
Type of food:
1. Macau-Portugal-Singapore inspired baked goods
2. What brought you here:
We are a big fan of dim sum egg tarts and we have never had a Portuguese inspired egg tart, which is a major highlight in their array of baked goods.
3. Ambience:
Eclectic and cozy. Super colorful, with well thought out details. The rice bag pillow cases and colorful bird cages did not go unnoticed!
4. Our favorite dish ordered & why?
The Macau rice crisp, a savory rice crispy treat with pork floss. We like traditional pork floss buns AND rice crispy treats. Yes, there's an initial, "whoa, i'm not sure," followed by, "why the hell not?!" You got your sweet marshmallow. You got your savory pork. You got your crunchy. You got your chewy. They also serve it with a fish sauce caramel to drizzle on top!
(Clockwise: Sesame peanut butter mochi, ceylon snickerdoodle, Macau rice crisp, Portuguese egg tart)
5. What will we order next time?
Their malasadas. They only sell these on the weekends and we went on a weekday, so if you try them, please please please comment and tell us what we missed out on below!
